Scaling a Project

I am seeking guidance on how to dynamically scale an existing project plan
(template). I would like to be able to change a single variable or factor at
the top level in order to stretch or compress multiple individual task
durations an existing plan. Any thoughts or ideas are much appreciated.

Hello Jay,

Sorry, I do not know of a method to accomplish this out of the box. A
VBA solution may very well be possible. If you are conversant with
VBA and would like some direction down that avenue, try posting more
specific details to the Project Developer newsgroup. My skills in VBA
are *very* light, but at the least I can see you would need a way to
capture the variable or factor from the user, a way of identifying
which tasks would need to have duration or work changed, and then
modify the duration based upon the factor.

On a less mechanical and more realistic take however, I don't see even
a VBA solution being the best answer. While it may not apply to your
world, I have been involved in no project where I can say in other
than very broad generalities that if we increase factor X by 10%, then
a whole series of other tasks will automatically increase by a finite
factor. The knowledge and skills of the project manager must still be
called into play and that is where a large amount of the "art" of
project management comes from in my opinion.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
