Scan for Office 2K Update stops

When scanning for status of update on Office 2000 the scan
simply stops (at 40%). No error message is delivered.
No reply from MS on report. Can't find a similar report
among all the truly serious problems others have with
Update. Information anyone??
Running Win2K, Build 2195, Office 2K std,w/access add in.
