I want to make sure I'm reading the posts correctly: there is no way to scan a document into Word????

Hi Hannah -

Not directly, no. Office 2008 doesn't support TWAIN. However, files produced
by your scanning software can certainly be inserted into Word documents.

Adding to what Bob says, there are a couple of OCR programs that
automagically drop their results into your open Word document.
I have an old thing called ReadIris Pro that does that. I'd be amazed
if the current version does not do it.
I have given up on scanners. I just grab my camera. Either ReadIris or
Acrobat Professional does a decent job of turning the photo into text.

The internet has changed everything. You seem to go for ages before
needing a scanner these days.

Perhaps the reason Scanners fell out of favor on Mac Platform at OS 9.
Is for a year or two Apple couldn't even come up with how Twain was
supposed to work on OSX. That a Long time to not have Twain Drivers.
Then after Apple finally got their act together and created a
specification for Twain The Scanner manufacturers to use. They said to
Hxxx with them. If they've taken that long to come up with the
specifications, They must think Mac Users, don't use them so what's the
point.

But I didn't adopt OSX until about X.2.8 by that time The SANE project
had come up with some SANE/TWAIN Drivers to use with the current Scanners.

I use My Umax Astra 2200 at least once a week. And when I have the doug
to my a new one that use the real Apple twain Driver. I will.
