Scanning for viruses

Since running the patch for the Blaster Worm, frequently
when I try to open a document in Word 2002 on XP I get
the message "Scanning for Viruses." The computer then
gets hung up and I have to shut down and restart. I
depend on my 1 year old Gateway and Word for my
consulting business, so I find this extremely
frustrating. Can anyone suggest a fix?

Disable the Norton Office Plug-in.
