scanning to a word file/document

How do I scan a document into a word file? I've tried it
different ways, but end up with a smaller, weirder
version of the original document. Please help me out on
this, it seems that it should be something easy and I
missed it, but I need step by step instructions if you
have them.

What you are doing is taking a picture of a document with your scanner and
inserting it, as a picture, into Word. If you want to bring editable text
into Word from a scanner, you will need to purchase a 3rd-party Optical
Character Recognition (OCR) program, such as OmniPage by ScanSoft.
