Scanpst does not work

Michel

I have 2 copies of my pst files, a day apart, using outlook 2007.
I had to reinstall it so I took 2 copies at different times. I reinstalled
outlook 07 and tried to import my pst file. Got an error, ran the scanpst on
both files and the process ended at step 6, right when it reached 99%..
The error message said: "An error has occured which caused the scan to stop.
No changes have been made to the scanned file."
The file is only 560MB.

Is there a better tool than scanpst?
Do I have to spend $200 for another piece of software to get it fixed?

Can you open the .pst file in Outlook?

ScanPST is not perfect, or rather PST files are not perfect and scanpst does
not fix everything. is something interrupting the scan? does it fail at the
same point consistently?

I cannot open the file in Outlook, I get the error "Errors have been
detected, close , etc.. Use scanpst"
It fails exactly at the same point every time. I checked the log file
generated by scanpst and it show a lot of the following messages
!!AMap page @1795072: PTYPE mismatch (read 00, expected 84)
!!AMap page @1795072: BID mismatch (read 0, expected 1B6400)
and also
??Couldn't find BBT entry in the RBT (12620E)
??Couldn't find BBT entry in the RBT (12689E)
The last line in the log is
Fatal Error: 80040818

Can you open your recent backup that you made prior to reinstalling Outlook?

After I reinstalled Outlook the pst file created by outllok works fine but
all my messages are in the old pst.
I cannot open the recent 2 backups made prior to reinstalling it.
I need to import all my emails back into outlook but can't.

I don't think that reinstalling it again will make any difference.

When you reinstall outlook it creates a new pst file right?
I tried replacing the new file with the old one but it did not work either.
Can't open it from outlook either!

Just replacing the new PST Outlook created with the old one, as you
described in a prior post, is a good way to corrupt the new mail profile.

It won't. The problem lies in the PSTs, not in the Outlook installation.
If SCANPST can't handle the file and Outlook won't open it, you're only hope
is a commercial PST recovery tool. If the data is important enough to you,
the money required to buy a tool won't be.
