Scattergram

How do I do a scattergram where each data point has an x value for time, a y
value for "market capitalization" and a data label for each stock.

This should be easy but I'm going crazy

I can't seem to get the data labels to come up when the each data point is
correctly positioned in x-y space.

Jim,
I don't think excel can do exactly what you want because the labels
cannot be something other than the x or y data points.
But a few posts back, "Adding pictures to data points", Shane
described how he was able to get the plotting symbol to be a picture.
The "picture" could be the stock ticker symbol. There are some issues
about white space around the picture, but you can minimize that in
several ways.
1. Put the stock symbol into a cell and make the cell size as small as
possible
2. File > Copy Picture (press the shift key before going to the menu)
3. Click on the data series in the chart
4. File > Paste Picture

In a way, this is better than labels because the symbol will be right
on the data point rather than off to the side.
If you want, you could paste the symbol on just some of the data
points in the series.
