Schedule future Non direct project tasks

We are using project serer 2007
We manage direct project tasks in our project plan and non direct project
tasks such vacation/sick etc in timesheets.
If one of the resources would like to take a vacation in the following
month, what is the recommended way to do it?
Is there another way to represent it in the system rather than changing it
in the resource’s calendar?

Booking them through the timesheet creates the calendar exception.
Generally, this is the preferred method because the calendar exceptions
automatically cause the schedules to change when the Project Manager next
recalculates it.
