(Proj Server 2003) PMs want to have project tasks to
schedule a few hours each week for such things as Project
Meetings, Project Management or other project admin types
of activity. These tasks would span a phase or even the
whole project duration. We want to be able to book these
actuals in the project schedule not in a separate Admin
Project.
Usually we only assign one resource per task. In this
case, if possible, it would be more efficient to put
multiple resources on a single Admin task. Tasks are fixed
units, flat, dependencies=start milestone/end proj
milestone & not effort driven. Placed the task at the
bottom of the schedule. I have manually assigned 2 Work
hours per week on each resource, and turned task leveling
off (priority 1000). When we reschedule remaining work it
appears Project Pro does try its best to spread the work
out in 2hr/weekly segments as originally set up, &
extending task finish if necessary (need to watch this
does not artificially extend the Phase/Project).
Our process after applying Actual Work is
1. Reschedule Uncompleted Work from the next Monday
2. Re-level Resources using Priority, Standard
All of the above appears to yield the proper results in
the few test cycles I have run. Can you suggest if I am
over looking something that is going to "bite" us later or
that I am just not seeing??
Greatly appreciate other opinions on this to keep us from
going down the wrong path.
