schedule the weekend but see the Gantt view colored for weekends

Majid

Hello Dear,
I would like to be able to schedule the weekends( either
sat. or sunday) but be able to see the standard non
working time ( saturdays and sundays are colored in Gantt
chart view.
Would that be possible?
What I have tried so far is to set the 24 hours calender
but still I am not able to schedule the weekend. Please
advise

Hi,

Leave the standard calendar as is
Set resoiurce calendars to include Sat-Sun as working days or if you work
without resources create a base calendar 7days and assign it to the relevant
tasks.

Hi Majid,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

By schedule the week ends, I assume you mean to make Sat & Sun working days?
If so, Tools/Change Working Time... and select the column headings S and S
so that they are highlighted (click and drag or ctrl+click the Ss). Select
the Nondefault working time radio bar, and OK. Now repeat the process but
create a New calendar (give it a new name like Base) and revert the Sat &
Sun to non-working. Finally, Format/Timescale.../Non-working time and
select the Base calendar (maybe give it a different colour). That should do
it.

Hi Jan,
I have created a base calender as per your advise. Now I
can schedule the weekends. However, the weekends color
has disapeared from the Gantt view and I want it to come
back since it is a very good indicator for our team.
Any way to get the weekend color back and be able to
schedule the weekends?
Please advise

Hi Majid,

The Project Calendar should still be the old standard, not the newly created
base calendar.
Base Calendar is a different notion from Standard Project Calendar.

Hi Jan.
What I did was to right click on the gantt view bar then
changed working time as per your instruction but the
weekend color disappeard. I have also tried the timescale
in gantt view and the only way I get the sundays colored
and be able to schedule all the weekends is to use the
nightshift calender.
Please advise. This is very important to our team.
If you like I may have to send you step by step so that it
is clear what I have done.
Please advise

Hi,

The gantt view bar has absolutely no relation top this.

Make sure your standard calendar stiill has normal weekends
If necessary Tools, Organizer, Calendars, copy Standard from Global to the
file.
Now Tools, Change Working time.
Once you're there, click New
Name your new Base Calendar something like "Seven Days" or whatever you like
Select the headers for Sat and Sun, click Nonstandard Working time
OK

Now you can give this calendar to a task (Task information, Advanced) or a
resource (Resource Sheet, Base Calendar column). Those task and/or resoruces
will work 7 days but your weekends will still be on the Gantt Chart.

Hi Mike, Thank you for the copy.
With your direction I am able to setup the new calendar
base which is able to schedule the weekends ( Sat & Sun).
My problem is the gray color for weekends on "bottom Tier
column" in the Gridlines disappers soon I set up the Sat &
Sun. as non deafult working. I did go to
Format/Timescale.../Nonworking time and I see my base
calendar but the timescale view shows the weekends color
disapeared from my base calendar however, if I click
on "nightshift" calendar I see the sundays are colored and
I am able to changed the color.
Please advise

Sorry, I am making a correction to my previous posting.
In below I mant the "Middle Tier column not the "bottom
Tier column.

Hi Jan,
What I have discovered accidantely is that if my project
timescale option is set with "two Tires" rather than three
tires then I am able to set the gridlines to show
the "middle tires" to represent the week ends.
Perhaps this is the reason that I am not able to see the
changes in some of my projects that has set to "three
tires"
Please advise

Hi Majid,

Firstly, I don't know what you mean by the various tiers as the week-end
colouring only appears within the gridlines and not the tiers.

However, you need to show in the nonworking timescale the calendar you
produced with Sat & Sun set as nonworking time. Otherwise it won't show.
Re-read my suggestion and ensure it is showing the Base calendar with SS
nonworking.
