Schedule tracking

I am working as a planning engineer.I updated and track the schedule on
monthly basis. The main problem I face is basically MSP takes times based %
completion.which in no case a true indication of actual % completion of the
project. For other % completions like work and physical % completion it doesnt
give consolidated % completion or summerized % completion. So what is more
appropriate way of tracking?

I am a big proponent of using Physical%Complete. Physical%Complete will only
"roll up" if you take the following steps.

1. Assign costs to resources in the resource sheet as standard rates. If
you do not plan to put resources in your schedule, use "Worker" at a rate of
$1/hr.

2. Tools/Options/Calculations. Select the Earned Value button and change to
Physical % Complete (for future tasks)

3. Assign costed resources to appropriate tasks.

4. Change the Earned Vlaue type for all the tasks to Physical%Complete. It
is important that all tasks have the same EV technique. This can be done on
the advanced tab of the task info dialog or insert the EV Method colum and
change it there.

5. Strike a baseline

6. Set a status date

7. Key your Physical%Complete in the Physical%Complete column.

The most frequent errors are not having costed resources, mixed EV methods,
and failure to set the status date.

It should roll up for you know.
