Scheduled Overtime

Hi,

I'm trying to create a Project that will over a few weeks and am coming up
with the following problems:-

1. Our standard working day is 7:30am to 11:30pm but I need to be able to
calculate overtime for hours outside of 8:00am to 5:00pm.
2. I need to be able to calculate an amount for Accommodation (per person
per day) of the contract running and would like this to be automatic so if my
duration increases then the amount for accommodation must change too

Most of my durations are calculated in hours but could run over 2 days with
multiple resources on each.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!!!

By "standard working day" do you mean each individual worker works 0730-2330
(???) or do you mean you have a number of more conventional duration shorter
shifts that collectively end up covering operations over that time frame?
And do they get overtime for ALL hours outside the range 0800-1700
regardless of their shift assignment or do they get OT when they work more
hours in the day than their regular shift requires? In other words, if you
have shifts does a worker regularly assigned to work swing 1530-2330 get the
OT rate for work after 5pm or does he get OT if he comes in early one day
thus exceeding his regular 8 hour shift?

Daily accomodations (I assume you mean hotel meals etc by that term) can be
estimated by creating a material resource "Per diem", units "days", and
standard rate of the allowance per day. Assign it to tasks as a normal
resource substituting "X/day" where X is the number of people to be housed
for the percentages. If tasks run over weekends it'll be a little off but
that'll get you in the ballpark which is what Project is more concerned with
(leave detailed, to-the-penny accurate cost accounting with the accountants
where it belongs). If you have a lot of tasks running for multiple weeks,
you could figure the per diem rate in weekly increments instead so every 5
days of duration would end up with enough per diem resources assigned to it
to cover the costs of the intervening weekends.

Or you could use Excel to figure up per diems and then include them in the
task budget as fixed costs.
