Scheduling and resource allocation

Is there a setting in project that can be changed to prevent it from changing
the time line on my scheduled tasks based on the resources allocated to those
tasks? I know Project adjusts the timelines based on how many resources are
available and what percentage of that resource is allocated to the task, but
I dont like that. I do not want my schedulling to be so automated. Rather, I
want to schedule to task myself and then have the timeline stay just as I set
it after I have assigned resources, no matter how many I assign. I have no
intention of managing the time or work my resources have attributed to a
project. I siomply want to have a logical sequence of the tasks, establish
the timeline and assigne accountability.

Hello Ckauffma,

If you do not want project to adjust duration if you add or subtract
resources from the tasks, make sure your tasks are not effort driven.
By disabling effort driven if you add resources to tasks the amount of
total work on the task will increase -- if you remove assigned
resources, the total amount of work will decrease. You can add the
effort driven field to a task view and set to "no" to speed things
along.

However, this will not prevent project from adjusting the duration of
tasks if you change the amount of work.

If you have no cares about the amount of work or tracking that work, I
would just omit assigning resources completely. Add the Contact field
(or any spare text field) to the table and enter your resources in that
field. You can modify the format of the Gantt chart to show the
contents of the contact or text field.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thank you Julie S. Using a contact column in place of the resource was a
great solution.
