Scheduling daily tasks on "taskpad" in Office 2007

It would appear that in Office 2007, functionality of previous versions has
changed. I am simply looking to have only daily tasks and past due tasks
appear in the lower right-hand corner of the main Outlook screen (folder list
on left, email in center and calender top right).

Likewise, in past versions this "taskpad" included a checkbox that allowed
me to indicate once a task was complete and it would strike a line through
the text and change to red. This item would remain on the list until day's
end.

How do I configure 2007 to have this previous functionality?

All help is greatly appreciated!
