Scheduling tasks based with resource availability in mind

Hello,
I am total noob to project and project management for that matter.

Here is my situation,
I work on roughly 21 projectsat any given time (websites) I have 6
developers of 3 different skillsets.
If I schedule a task for 1 developer how do I get MSP to schedule that task
at a time when he/she is available not just startting at today's date like
it does. I have a master project, but all my tasks just start on today and
end today.

Any and all help gratefully appreciated.

Our setup is Project 2007 professional, PWA on a 2003 server and the out
look addin, ALl resources are built on the server in an enterprise resource
pool.
