scientific notation

I would like to display a computed number as an E-6, E-9,
E-12, or etc. but by default the scientific notation
format does not seem to hit these patrticular ones... very
strange. Any advice will be appreciated.

Just a pedantic correction. The phrase 'scientific notation' refers to the
form N x 10^b where N is greater than 1 and less than 10 (1<N<10) without
restriction on the value of the exponent. When the exponent must be a
multiple of 3, we talk about 'engineering notation'. So 4.55 * 10^4 is
scientific while 45.5*10^3 is engineering.
