Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel How do I open Excel and Word so that they occupy the whole screen without having to adjust it manually each time?

In Word it's a matter of opening the Normal.dotm template, adjusting the
window size to suit your preference, making some other change (such as
typing a character then deleting - not Undo-ing - it, then close & save the
template. New documents should open at the size you set the window to.

With Excel you'll have to create a Custom Workbook template with the window
size set to what you want. Instructions on creating a Custom Workbook are
included in Excel Help. See: 'Control how workbooks and sheets are created',
specifically the subtopic: ' Change the format and settings for new
workbooks'.

Or you could drag to full size adjust zoom level to custom size until it
almost completely fills screen, then save as a Dummy file to desktop
then quit Word/Excel throw the dummy away. then reopen. New settings
will apply.

Hi Phillip;

If you're going to offer that suggestion it would be a good idea to take it
to the next step... Leaving it as you've suggested leaves the likelihood
open that one might inadvertently save changes to what you're referring to
as a "dummy file" which spoils it for future use.

The "dummy file" idea is fine, but once it's created the next step is to do
a Get Info on it & check the box for 'Stationery Pad'. By doing so,
double-clicking it produces a new file as a copy based on the "dummy" rather
than actually opening it ‹ similar to the use of a template.

I hadn't thought about that. But I haven't had an issue. In word or
excel. once I created the dummy and saved it then closed Excel or word
and allow them to save changes to Normal(/Normal.dotm?). Then throw away
dummy its always opened to what I set.

But you are correct.

I did spend a few minutes this morning though creating templates for
both excel 2004/8 and Word 2004/8. I also made templates for Verdana and
Benguiat in Excel and also for Portrait and landscape. And in Word for
Verdana and Benguiat Portrait only.

Hello All.

This Apply Only to new Word and Excel files or Old files also. Because
I am having issue when I open an excel or Word file from Entourage
2008. Always it shows in a Small Window. Then I have Maximise it or
resize it.

The topic of this thread pertains only to the creation of new documents. Any
existing files open in a window whose size is determined by the manner in
which it was last saved. To force files to automatically open at some
predetermined window size would require VBA or Apple Script.

And a request if I may :) When replying in an existing thread it is
preferred that you follow the pattern already established regardless of your
personal opinion re 'top' vs.. 'bottom' posting. Which is "right" is a
futile argument, but mixing the 2 is definitely hard to deal with... Thanks.

OR....

open that old file change something ... add a letter.... then
immediately remove it. Then re-size the window. I have mine stretched to
limit vertically and Horizontally. then save. Then allow it to save to
normal when you quit excel.

You will have to repeat for each document.
