screen clipping is unreliable

When inserting a screen clipping the target page is frequently missing the
information or image. It takes several retries to overcome the problem.
Most of my screen clips are web pages.

Can you clarify? What exactly is missing when you try to
capture a screen clip?

Are you trying to capture more than one screen's worth of
data?

Erik Sojka

I'm still not clear.

1) Is it that you have to scroll or resize the chart
window until all of the information is visible?

2) Or that some component of the screen (maybe certain
text/colors/graphics/etc.) is visible normally, is
visible when the screen "lightens" before you take the
clipping but is *not* visible when the clipping is pasted
into the SideNotes section?

it puts it unto the clipboard before pasting - are you doing the same steps
each time? If not, one of the steps is clearing the clipboard. (I have one
program that clears the clipboard when I minimize it - getting screenshots
from it was fun [NOT!].)

Try this - turn on the clipboard task pane found in most office programs (or
the windows clipviewer) - arrange the windows so you can see at least a part
of the clipboard pane at all times. (You just need to see enough to see if
something is added or it's cleared.) As soon as you make a clipping you can
see it in the clipboard. If a program is clearing it, it'll disappear from
the clipboard.

So you would normally have to scroll to see the entire
image? (Forget clipping for a second).

RB,
What happens if you use the screen clipping from the SideNote interface
instead of the main interface? I am thinking there would be less screen to
re-draw, so it might make it possible for things to keep in sync better.

Here's what I am thinking:
I usually keep my side note window small. If it is small enough to fit in
your space, you can just click the screen clip button from there. It will
go to your SideNotes instead of the main note page, but the move is pretty
easy (CTRL-A, CTRL-C or X, then expand the main interface and paste.).

This comment from your other post is a clue:
I just ran an experiment. I reduced the size of the OneNote window to fit
as a long rectangle beneath the rectangle (stock chart) mentioned above. It
works perfectly this way although it is a bit awkward. Why does it work
this
way and not when OneNotes fills the screen and hides the portion of the
screen you want to clip? The only difference is the screen needs to redraw
in the latter and during the redraw it does not redraw 100% of the image.
There is something going on when you use maximized windows - I discovered it
using other apps, so it's Windows, not OneNote that is the problem. You
mentioned a chart window - what software/web site is the chart in?

Thank you for your help.

Each time the procedure is exactly the same. I tried your suggestion
about
monitoring the clipboard task pane. The images are not cleared from the
clipboard after the insert.

Interesting, though. I had three panes open on the desktop. The chart,
OneNotes and the clipboard task pane. The procedure worked without the
problem mentioned earlier. I cannot do it this way, however because the
windows in this experiment were resized (made smaller) to fit on the
screen.
The window is too small for practical purposes - I need to see the whole
chart.

Any further suggestions would be appreciated.

The chart window.... the browser is Internet Explorer 6.0 and the web site(s)
are at www.investors.com. The chart window I referred to is their "Premium
Stock Graphs". I also use several of their other premium services and all of
these had the same problem mentioned earlier.

If this problem is with Windows, how does Microsoft learn about it?
