screen disapears

When I give a powerpoint presentation (2004) with my power book hooked
up to the projector everything runs fine until I take longer than a few
minutes to move to the next slide...then the screen starts to cut out
like a screensaver is coming on (I have the screensaver set to never on
my computer during presentations). touching the touch pad then brings
the screen back. does anyone know why this happens?

Running off batteries by any chance?

The reason I ask, is the "power saving" features may be set to turn off
certain features (screen/harddisk etc) after a certain period of inactivity.
