Screen size and resolution?

Hi all,

We are in the process of developing a web site and are not sure about what
screen size & resolution to use. Any suggestions?
Is it safe to assume that *most* people have 15" screens in 800 x 600 ? Or
1024 x 768 ?
Also, how do you handle the browser's toolbars at the top, knowing it may
take some screen space ?
Can you detect the user's resolution?

Thanks for all suggestions,

Jean-Marc

The standard most professionals use is for 800x600. Toolbars are typically
not worried about. Yes, there are ways to detect resolution, that involves
programming and thus is out of the scope of this MS Publisher forum. You'd
need to research that according to the programming technology you would use.
You can learn more about resolutions and Publisher at my site as well as
general web design how to's.

Bonjour Jean Marc, comment ca ca? In answer to your first
question..I was told by my web host to format my site at
600x800 and to make sure that my own screen was 600x800
also. The majority of users will view the web at that
resolution. However.....when I posted the site on the web
the total size of my web pages became extremely small FOR
SOME VIEWERS but not for others. In other words sometimes
a web page in my site filled the screen entirely and
sometimes it only took up one third of the screen (it
depended on the user's browser or service provider). I do
not know why this is happening. I don't think you can
detect the user's resolution. The browser's toolbar will
make a difference but the user will just scroll down to
see the part of your page that is not appearing. Your web
pages will be completely different for people using AOL,
or MSN or any other service proviser. My web site has ten
different appearances. Beware of Publisher as a web
building tool. I love it but I have had beaucoup de
problems avec....
