Screen tips not working in Word

I have transferred Office XP and my Word 2002 files to a new computer.
The screen tips are not working for footnotes and endnotes in my Wor
documents; that is, the pointer will flicker when over the referenc
mark and very occasionally the screen tip will come up. I have enable
'Show screen tips'. Any suggestions

The cure for this is to turn the Document Map on and back off. This must be
done once per relevant document per session. No idea why it works or what
causes the problem, which I believe was corrected in an update.
