Screen Tips with Hot Spots and Pictures

I have a site on which I have included "long text" and "alt text" on all the
images. On the home page as well there are a pair of hot spots again with a
screen tip associated with them.

These display perfectly in IE6. Looking at various postings here the general
assumption is that they should be displayed by Firefox and Netscape (on a
PC). For some reason they are not - I thought I had set everything correctly
but it appears not.

As a supplementary question is it correct that screen tips are not displayed
when being viewed on a MAC using Netscape.

The site is http://www.alisonellenhandknitwear.co.uk.

Thanks in advance for you help

It's for a very good reason. Alt attributes are only supposed to be
displayed when the browser has graphics turned off. All modern browsers get
this right. But IE stubs its toe by showing them, thereby making people
think that they can use them for screen tips. You cannot.

Use the title attribute instead, e.g.,

<area alt="this will not show" title="but this will"....
