script accessing address book

I found an answer to a question about an Entourage2004 error message
that told me a script was trying to access address book (two times). I
am using SpamSieve. Thread is listed below.

So I think it was SpamSieve that was at work. Although I've been using
it for a few weeks already.

Just to be safe, I checked my OSX Sharing=Firewall=Advanced=Log and did
not see anything unusual.

So I just wanted to know if my assumptions are correct that there is
nothing wrong.

Have you considered reading the SpamSieve manual? It tells you that
SpamSieve does access the Entourage address book and that you should
turn off the "Warn" checkbox in Entourage's security preferences. That
doesn't prove that in this particular case it is SpamSieve that is
reading your address book (there is a way to prove it), but it should
make you feel more relaxed.

Checking the firewall on this is a waste of time. Apple events do not
travel across the network (unless you've turned on Remote Apple Event
Sharing, and even then someone would need to know your admin password,
and even *that* wouldn't work from outside your LAN if you're using a
router).

Basically the "Warn" checkbox is idiotic. The purpose of AppleScript is
to expose things. If you don't want something accessed you shouldn't
have exposed it in the first place. Just to give an example, any
application can read and write to your system Address Book, and you
won't even know it's happening. So it's pointless to concern yourself
with this; don't worry, be happy. m.
