Script coding is grayed out

T

T.J.

I am new to Infopath, so I may be doing something incorrect.

When I go into the design view of a form, and go to Tools -> Script all my
options are grayed out.

Like-wise when I add a button to a form and choose "Script" the button
"Microsoft Script Editor..." is also grayed out.

I have re-installed office 2003, but still have the issues. I was not sure
if there is something else I can try or need to do to get this to work
correctly.

If anyone has had this problem before, let me know.

Thank you,

T.J.

Hi,

If you go to Help | About what are the numbers after 11.xxxx in the
top line? Any mention of SP1 or SP2?

I think you may be using the original release of InfoPath. SP1 has a
lot of new features compared to the original release.

You can usually use Help | Check for Updates to upgrade (but that
doesn't work on my install).

Alternatively, you can go to
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...97-2DB6-4654-9DB6-EC7D5B4DD867&displaylang=en
to get a file to install SP2, assuming you are still on RTM.

Thank you for your help Andrew.

I installed both Service Pack 1 and Service Pack 2 for Office 2003. It did
change some of the options and settings in Info Path, very impressive.

But still my scripting/coding options are grayed out. Now when I go to
Tools it is called "Programming" (not "Scripting") and all the options are
still grayed out.

Same with the command buttons, I can choose "Rules and Custom side code" but
my button "Edit Form Code" is grayed out.

If you have any further advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

T.J.

Hi TJ,

Do you have Visual studio on your machine? What's happening if you try to
create an InfoPath project with Managed Code behind?

Thank you for the help.

Yes I have Visual Studio installed, and Microsoft .Net Framwork SDK v1.1.

I have run the Office 2003 Install "Add/Remove Features" two different times
(once before I updated with Office 2003 SP1 and SP2 and once afterwards).

I created a form based on an MS Access DB. When I try to add/edit the
script code everything is grayed out.

I did go to Tools -> Form Options then the "Open and Save", and check the
"Save using custom code" check box and click on "Edit..." and get the
following error:
---------------------------------------------------------
Microsoft Office InfoPath can't use Web Scripting.
This feature is not available. To make this feature available, please run
Setup again, select "Add or Remove Features" and change teh feature to "Run
from My Computer" or "Run from CD/network"

[OK]
---------------------------------------------------------

If you have any ideas, let me know. I am not sure what else to try.

Thank you,

T.J.

OK, what I meant is: did you try to create a InfoPath C# or VB.Net project
from Visual Studio 2003?
If you didn't do it yet, install:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...57-E115-4CAC-9986-A712E22879BB&displaylang=en

Then, because you just updated Office to SP2, please install the PIA to be
safe:
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;897646&spid=2514&sid=global

After these 2 installs, try to create a C# project and let me know if it
works...

Thank you again, you guys have been very helpful.

I ran both installs then went into .Net (I have 2003) and created both a new
C# Windows and Web project, and both created just fine.

But I still have the same issues in Info-Path. All the coding options are
grayed out.

How crazy, thank you though for your help.

On the bright side, it looks like you can now use managed code behind your
form, which may be better than using scripting anyway...

Good luck with everything.
