Script Error (referred by IE tech that says is "office" problem

Christophe

Can someone tell me how to fix this newfound error? It
happens every time I turn on my machine.

I click either Yes or No, but it comes back every time I
turn on my machine. I am running XP. I've tried turning
off/on script debugger in IE to no avail.
Thank you

Hi Christophe,

If you don't find the answer you are looking for here then you might
try posting to a newsgroup specific to Windows XP since that's where
the gurus for Windows hang out - this one is more for Office
applications. :)

This is confusing because I posted to the IE site intially
and the tech told me that the "msoffice.hta" makes it an
Office issue rather than an XP issue and that I should
post here.

Yes, that is confusing. But just because the file has the word "office" in
it doesn't really make it an Office issue. :)

I google-grouped (googled-groups?) msoffice.hta, and what I see makes it
seem as if this is probably caused by a spyware (or virus?) issue. (Didn't
read that closely.)

http://tinyurl.com/2r4bs lists a number of removal suggestions.
http://tinyurl.com/35whf shows all the hits in Google Groups.

I see you did receive some other suggestions as to how to get this resolved.
Did those work?

Umm, not yet. I think they were really links on where to
go to try and fix. I will look at the links you posted
below. thanks. Which messageboard do you think I should
try next? I've been to viruses, IE and office......told to
go somewhere else each time.
Appreciate your help though

Hi Christophe,

Sorry to hear you've go the 'run around'. :) Typically when this
happens no one knows where the problem lies.

I suspect the previous posts on this issue found in the links Echo
provided will help you resolve the problem.

If you still need help, since it does appear to be virus/spyware
related then microsoft.public.security.virus may be able to help you
with the removal process.

Sorry you've been getting the runaround, Christophe. We don't like to do
that, but it seems sometimes it happens when nobody's quite sure what
the issue is. :) Thanks for being patient.

When I mentioned I thought you'd received some other suggestions as to
how to get it resolved, I was looking specifically at Frank's
suggestions in the IE group (I was thinking you were Julia J.)
http://tinyurl.com/:

*****
File://c:\windows\fonts\msoffice.hta refers to Office. It's an hta file
which will run in IE.
or
You might want to refresh your scripting engine:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/nhp/default.asp?contentid=28001169
or
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/webdev.asp
Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 2000 and XP
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...43-7e4b-4622-86eb-95a22b832caa&DisplayLang=en
Another possibility:
Go to Start | Run ant type
regedit
and press <Enter>. Go to the Startup tab and uncheck anything related
to
Office. Restart and if you don't get the error go back and check one of
them. Repeat this process until you find out which entry causes the
problem.
*****

I suspect, though, that running "Hijack This," AdAware, and/or Spybot
will probably take care of it. There are links to those programs in the
previous URLs I posted, or you can find them via Google, I'm sure.
