scripting

hi all,
i am new to this product. i am developing some forms. i am facing some
problems in this regard. they are

- can i use the templates update the entered data into a database created by
me.
- i am creating these forms on a clint machine. as i try to write a script
for a button, i get .js sample script. but i suppose .js script is clint
side scripting. can anyone explain this process.
