Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel Why have the scroll bars on my Word documents disappeared? I've restarted the computer, but that didn't help. Any ideas? Carole

Simplest thing to check first: Word> Preferences> View, in the Window group
make sure that both Vertical & Horizontal Scroll Bars are checked.

If that isn't the cause/cure make sure you have both OS X (10.5.8) and
Office (12.2.3) completely updated. Once everything is confirmed as up to
date reply with additional details if you continue to have the problem. Be
sure to specify what Views you're using, Zoom percentage and anything else
that may be related.

If you're using Print Layout view and there is not much text or other
content, then the scroll bars may not appear until there is enough text
or content to require scrolling.

Curious, Jim ‹ I've never known *content* [or lack of same] to have any
effect on the presence of the scroll bars. In my experience that's always
been determined exclusively by how much of the "page" is visible in the
window ‹ even in a blank doc ‹ regardless of whether you're using Page/Print
Layout, Notebook Layout, Publishing Layout View or even Print Preview. In
Normal/Draft & Outline Views both the H & V scroll bars display at all
times. The one maverick being Web Layout View where the Vertical Scroll Bar
is omnipresent but the Horizontal Scroll Bar never displays despite window
width or anything else.

Thanks ... it was the Preferences/View issue ... I had to re-check the scroll bars for both vertical and horizontal. Thanks for all your help. Carole
