scroll is very slow on Word:Mac 2004

Hi I'm using Word for Mac 2004 on a new macbook w/ Leopard. Scrolling down a
document with either the mouse wheel or the sidebar has been very slow (it
is interrupted every few seconds as if the machine is making some kind of
check or update). I tried a few things: kept the autocorrect options at a
minimum, changed the settings on my end note program so that references are
checked only every hour, and re-installed word --> continue to have same
problem. any other suggestions?

Thanks

David

I would try turning off EndNote's option to automatically format the
citation as you enter it. The EndNote add-in is not trouble-free, in
general.

By the way--most of the things you tried would not be expected to work.
AutoCorrect options don't slow down scrolling, I don't think.
Reinstalling Word/Office almost never ever works for anything on the
Mac--bookmark this page for future MacWord troubleshooting:
http://word.mvps.org/Mac/TroubleshootingIndex.html
(By the way, if this is a trial version, or if a trial version came with
your new computer, that Test Drive needs to be removed before installing
the real version)

Using Draft View is something that could speed it up.

However--you should repost in the Mac group. Scrolling has been a bit
iffy in Word 2004--various updates improved it, I think, but I don't
know whether Leopard reversed it, or whether you need to update (try
Help | Check for Updates--new programs are often not updated).

See here for Google/Entourage gateway to newsgroups for MacWord,
MacExcel, and other MS programs for the Mac:

Please carry on this conversation over there--it's too easy for the
three mac users in this busy newsgroup to lose track of a thread.

And if a new MacBook means you are a new Mac user, welcome to the Mac!

Thanks, I reposted in google groups. will try updating, although I think it
did that during installation. 2 other friends complain of the same issue...
very annoying when working with large documents. Otherwise I love my mac!!

I see your post over there. Now people who are using Leopard will be
able to tell you if this is normal. :)
