Scroll wheel double-click not recgonized in Office apps

This is a problem that has been asked many times over the past few years,
and I've seen no clear solution.

On several of my computers, Office apps do not recognize the double-click
issued by my mouse's scroll wheel (aka Middle Button). In and file
open/save dialog, I have to click the wheel twice, or do a normal left
button double-click. Any other app on the computer deals with the wheel's
double-click just fine.

This is currently seen in Office 2003, using both MS and Logitech mice. All
have most current drivers.

Strangely, it is not a consistent problem as on some (a minority for me)
computers the double-click is properly recognized.
