Scrolling Issue in Word

I have a 5-page document and I'd like to highlight some
text that goes over two pages. As soon as I reach the next
page it starts scrolling in a hurry all the way down to
the last page all the sudden.
Is there somewhere an option that lets me select the
scrolling speed?
I wasn't able to locate such option, neither in Word nor
in the Mouse settings.
Suggestions are appreciated, thank you!

Click at one end of the desired selection. Use the elevator on the vertical
scroll bar to bring the other end in view and Shift+click there.
