Scrolling issue in Word

Hey,
I'm using Office 2004 pack updated to 1.5.3 version on about 20 macs,
some of them are Leopard, other are still Tigers.

I get reports from certain users that they cannot scroll the Word
documents.
Symptoms: when user places curson on the text , the cursor starts to
blink, then when user uses scrolling with mouse wheel, trackpad etc
(no matter), the page s scrolled but when the blinking cursor
dissapears from visible area in the window, then viewavle secrion of
the window snaps back to the page where is the blinking cursor.
So you can scroll actually only in the boudaries of oyur view pane -
otherwise the vew point is reset to the place where you were typing.

This is insanely annoying, it really turns Word editing into pain.
Imagine you got 4 pages, and you can see only one page on dhte screen.
You got cursor on page 1 on top, added one sentence, and you want to
see the end of the document - you srcoll , and when you reach the
second page, the scroll just reverts your scroll in that way so the
blinking cursor is visible on screen. The only way to scroll donw or
see the text is to move cursor to the text below - it actually means
you must click on the text on the bottom of the same page, and scroll
a bit lower. Or you can use arrows to move cursor downward.

Anyone experienced this?

I've tried it on clean user profile, clearing plist files, etc - no
go. Seems like patch 1.5.3 truned the Word into a antisrcoll editor :(

Any suggestions appreciated.

I haven't seen any reports of this - and I am personally running 11.5.3 on
both OS X 10.4.11 & 10.5.6, so you'll need to provide a little more
information...

Is the respected OS fully updated on all systems? Are the files on a server
or stored on the local drives? Have disk permissions been repaired. What
about the specs of the Macs involved? Are there any 3rd party add-ins or
other utility-type programs in use?

Is there any consistency among the users experiencing the problem... Such as
Leopard is but Tiger isn't or vice versa? Does it happen with ALL documents,
just certain ones? What happens if a user who doesn't have the problem opens
a file that another user had the problem in?

You've described the problem well [and it's understandably a "pain" :)] but
we need details surrounding the issue in order to help troubleshoot.

Sorry for late reponse, but I have found the solution, before even
reading your response. I was very suprised what caused this, more
details below.

I forgot to add that all of our users use Polish language at work, so
I've added for their convenience Polish keyboard layouts to the
Keyboard menu, visible near the clock as PL Pro, PL Roman and PL
Modified - very useful in such apps as Adobe Creative Suite or Quark.
The system was distributed among certain number of MacBooks -
everything was fine, cause people were using also US English aswell. I
had also a freshly installed Mac with the exackly the same
configuration but without any custom contents used as a master imaging
machine. Then this issue started to pop out randomly after people
started to work on their machines - unfortunately after around 1 month
it become a noticebable issue. Then I decided to look precisely what
was going on, especially that I've been affected 2 days ago by the
problem.

After comparing every detail in system configuration, I have noticed
that the machines that do not have US English in the Keyboard layout
are affected by this odd behaviour in Word.

So the issue is related to missing US Keyboard in Mac OS, that can be
removed from user menu, when customizing International settings. It
seems that Word gets constant problems with checking spelling when
typing, because it tried to switch to non existent dictionary in
Office pack. It just gets lost when there is no English Keyboard
layout in the Keyboard layout menu available to user. How bizarre, I
thought.

So, reenabling any English language keyboard layout it inInternational
settings under Mac OS X fixes the issue in a snap.

I must check in detail if this is Leopard only isse, I suspet it
affects Tiger aswell, and can affect especially users from countreis
that does not have dictionaries bundled in Office.

Fo your information, system was updated with the latest patches, fdisk
and disk permissions were executed with succes. The problem was
unrelated to the location of the opened document in Word - it affected
all files editable in Word.

I haven't seen any reports of this - and I am personally running 11.5.3 on
both OS X 10.4.11 & 10.5.6, so you'll need to provide a little more
