scrolling mouse wheel distorts display

Hi!
I am using Windows XP SP-2, Office 2003 SP-1.
When I use the scroll wheel to scroll through a Word document it often
severely distorts the display. The display is distorted not only within the
Word window but throuhout the system. It can not be fixed in any other matter
(such as restarting Word, changing display resolution...) than restarting the
system. Sometimes, some of the desktop icons remain distorted even after
rebooting! I have replaced the memory chips and the graphics card but the
situation has not improved.
How can I fix the problem??
