Any control. I was just making a generic comment.

If I was forced to work with scrolling animated text, I would take one
of those 3M sticky notes, trim it to cover the post and place it on my
screen such that it covered up the control.

Seriously.

I can't stand the animated ads that are being run on web pages. So
now I run Firefox with all Flash disabled. Including Microsoft's
website which now has third party ads.

I have to access one site that uses a scrolling text almost daily. I have
to enter my pin 3 times for it to open, and almost two minutes to load. If
I need to know it (as a user) put it in a highlighted text box and please
don't pop it up. Users don't read pop ups any more. Hell, they close the
default ms internet explorer security warnings over and over without reading
when the could just check the box to keep it from coming up again.
