Scrolling through Contacts List causes Outlook to crash

D

Duke

I have several users who try to send a new mail message and when they try to
use their Contacts List in the "Show Names from" list and attempt to scroll
or find by name, Outlook hangs then crashes.

There is no error message box or error in the System or Application logs.

They are using Office 2k with SP3 (Outlook 2000 SP3).

Any suggestion or definitive answers would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hello,

I'm having a similar problem with outlook except mine crashes when I click
on a name to add to my message while scrollong thru my contact list.

I'm using Outlook 2k with WinXP SP2

Thanks!

This is a very common problem which Microsoft claims they cannot reproduce
and therefore cannot solve. Anecdotal reports claim the following may help:
1. Look for and correct a corrupt address in the Contacts displayed in the
Outlook Address Book (especially if the crash at the same place when
scrolling).
2. Remove then re-add the Outlook Address Book Service or, better yet,
create a new Outlook profile.
3. Update your video drivers.

Most people seem to find no solution.

My problem with crashing while viewing contacts is gone!

All we did was to delete some duplicate contacts. It so happens that these
contacts didn't have an E-mail addr. I don't know why this would have caused
the crash but it's working now.

I just wanted to share this with the group.

Thanks!

Corrupt Contact records is another cause, but next to impossible to track
down.
