Scrolling while typing

Geert

Is there a way to make the page scroll up automatically while typing? I
would like to keep the line I am typing on the same eye level, like
with an old fashioned typewriter. I use Word 98, MAC OS 9.

Thanks!

If you are in "View, Normal" and you size your window so that the
bottom is where you want it to be (eye level), you should be able to
type away and have your current line always be there.
Good luck!

What you say is true. But it is still frustrating that Word won't let
you see context below the insertion point after you have typed your way
to the bottom of the screen.

It should be a preference. Somewhere among all the bloat

But it ain't.

But we do have "Draw3DLightningHarsh" You wouldn't want to be without
that would you?

The Word command "DrawERSarcasmHigh" was not used in the making of this
post.

Elliott -

Are you advocating a bottomless screen?

I¹m old enough to remember when that swept through the bar scene.

Seriously, though... I¹m missing something. Seems to me that bottom is
bottom. How can they be scored for not showing what is below the last line?

Best,

No, what we are on about is having the screen scroll up as you type,
keeping the insertion point at roughly the same fraction of the way
down the screen with a few lines of the older stuff below it staying in
view.
That way you don't accidentally start repeating yourself
down the screen with a few lines of the older stuff below it staying in
oh! you know what I mean!

It absolutely should. It's the same issue as you click in footnote text and
it shows the footnote reference number at the top of the main screen,
meaning the sentence the footnote refers to is totally hidden. Which drives
me crazy, someone complained about it here before. There are other
manifestations--basically Word knows *which* line of text is active, but it
doesn't have code to say "keep that active line in the middle of the
screen".

Hee, hee.

Actually, that would be a good option. Another would be to have the screen
jump to the top when you reach the bottom. Not actually sure I would like
that, but I agree that it¹s not optimal to have to hit the page down key
when you hit the bottom of the screen.
