I am running on Windows98 Second edition.
I completely removed Office97 from my machine to purge it of multiple
copies of Office97 elements, which had accumulated over the years from
reinstalls for various reasons. After a complete removal I then
reinstalled Office97 and the first time I accessed Outlook, I received
this message:
The add-in "D: Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office\addins\scrptxtn.dll..." could not be installed or loaded.
Unable to load "D:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office...". You may
be out of memory .... or missing a .dll.
A long time ago I got the same message when I tried manually to remove
redundant pieces of the Outlook Suite. I had apparently had
multiple copies of Word, Outlook and Excel on my system. I figured
which ones were not being used and removed most of the files except
this one DLL. I had to put it back because Outlook keeps looking for it
on startup in this remote directory that used to have a copy of Outlook
in it. Anyway, this work around stopped the message from appearing and
I forgot about it.
I figured with a complete uninstall and reinstall I'd be starting from
scratch again. Lo and behold the scrptxtn.dll pops up again. I
searched my drives for this dll and it is not on it but apparently has
some connection to Outlook.
I would like to resolve this problem. If anyone knows what this dll is
and how I can stop Outlook from looking for it I would appreciate it.
As a workaround, I've put that dll, in a directory that Outlook is
looking for it, just like before, and there is no problem. Also on
starting Outlook, the warning message pops up; I click it closed and
proceed with no problems.
What does scrptxtn.dll do?
I'd appreciate your thoughts and any input on resolving this problem.
TIA
