search and Outlook 2007

I have installed 2007 beta outlook....When I search something on my folder
it doesn not return me any records....what may be wrong...at one point it
has prompted me to install Search Desktop that I have installed already.....

Me too (glad I'm not alone).

When I go into Search options, the heading for the "Indexing" box is
grayed-out, and I cannot activate the check-boxes beside "Personal Folders"
or "Archive Folders". I have a feeling the reason any search yields "Outlook
cannot perform your search" is because I cannot activate any set of folders
to search.

The first time I try to perform a search, I get an additional dialog box
that says "The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the
problem persists, restart Outlook".

Hi Sue, thanks for the quick reply. So far, this is the only issue I've had
with the new beta (which is exciting!!)..

I did previously install Desktop Search v3 when prompted by Outlook the
first time I ran it.. since then it doesn't seem like it indexed anything...
I have uninstalled, then installed DS v2.6, which I am going to upgrade to
v3 after I see it accomplish something..

My pc goes to standby after 30 minutes idle, so I wonder if the indexing
just isn't getting time to do its thing.. I will disable standby and see
what happens.

Also, any idea why: "When I go into Search options, the heading for the

Aah, that seemed to do the trick.

I uninstalled Desktop Search (DS) v3, and rebooted
I installed DS 2.6, and rebooted.
I installed DS 3, and rebooted.

Now, Outlook 12 allows me to check off the boxes to tell it to index my
personal folders and archive files.

Yeah! Best wishes/jim

p.s. besides "Terminal Services", are there any other services that DS
depends on??

do I have to keep my outlook open to have that indexing done....

Initially it will speed up the index creation if you leave the computer on.
Leave it on overnight and see if it gets built. The initial index can take
24 hours to build.

Sue,
WDS engine won't install on Windows Server 2003 x64 edtion. How can you
disable the prompt that comes up every time Outlook is started?

Try Tools | Options | Other | Advanced, then deselecting "Show prompts to download Windows
Desktop Search".
