Search and Replace in Word Hyperlinks

T

Tom Elsasser

Folks - Can anyone tell me if there's a way to do a
global search and replace in Word that will also impact
or change Hyperlink information? No Word expert here,
but it doesn't seem to be a standard option with search
and replace.

Thank you!

You can search in hyperlinks with Find and Replace provided you have field
codes displayed (Alt+F9).

Unfortunately, this didn't seem to work. If I press
ALT+F9 to display the codes, the hyperlink codes display
within the Word document and what is displayed actually
changes during the search and replace. However, if you
go back to normal view and edit the properties of the
Hyperlink via Right Click/Edit Hyperlink, the old values
are still there. :( The values changes only appear to
apply to what's displayed on the screen during the ALT-F9
search and replace process - not what appears deep within
the hyperlink properties.

Okay - for any other novice Word users [like me], make
sure you hit F9 to UPDATE FIELD information following
this sort of change. Okay, Suzanne, you can stop
giggling now. :)

Thanks for your help!

If you are displaying the field codes, the actual link will be changed but
the display text will not. If you are displaying field results, the display
text will be changed but the hyperlink will not. You will have to run Find
and Replace twice to get the desired results.

Oh, sorry, I should have thought of this, but I often forget to do it
myself, so I won't be giggling (except at myself).
