Search and Replace sshuts off Access 97

I have a database with some 3500 records. Lately when I do
a global search and replace on some text fields the
program shuts down on Windows XP or "Program must shut
down" message on a Windows 98 machine. Has anyone had that
problem? Is there a fix? I've tried both compacting and
repairing the database.

Sounds like a bit of corruption. Try importing everything into a new empty
database. If that doesn't work and you need a bit more, try:
