Search Engine for finding text?

I have a project which requires me to be able to search across 500 -
1000 Visio documents looking for text within the document, (e.g.,
network device labels). Most search engines only return metadata
(properties) information. Is anyone familiar with a utility than can
do this type of search returning a hit list with links to the
documents found?

What operating system are you using? Win 2000 and XP can easily search for
not only files but also text within the body of the file via Windows
Explorer. Have you tried that?

Randall,

Thanks for your reply. I have tried Windows Explorer and found it to
be very slow. I am in a group of 100 workers, searching against
100,000 documents coast to coast (people & documents). I need to
perform searches that include stemming and semantic variables
including relevance. Windows Explorer cannot do that. And lastly,
it needs to be able to index the data / document changes by crawling
my network.

(( I have gotten a ton of spam "microsoft related" since asking this
question. Anybody else have this problem? ))

You're a victim of a certain email virus that harvests addresses from this
and other newsgroups. You'll need to "dummy up" your email address in order
to stop further infestation, and use a spam blocker to avoid receiving from
other infected accounts.

As to your search engine need, right now I'm at a loss, sorry!
