Search Engine in OneNote does not work well.

I have a section with a specific section name that I created one week ago, I
looked for it and the search engine could not find it. Afterwards, I had to
locate the section manually.
The claim "Never again loose you notes" is not true.
I guess the search engine does include the section names in the search..
IT SHOULD!!!!!!

Well...it's intended to search the note contents more than the section
names - I think it's assumed that the section names are easily
discoverable (unless you have hundreds of sections) and thus searching for
them wouldn't save much time.

However, I can suggest that they make searching section names optional in
a future version.

The search function does not index the section names, only the contents of
the sections.

It's not an issue for me necessarily, since I know what the section names
are and I know my Notebook layout. It sounds like you might have too many
sections or are creating them randomly?

What kind of moron can't find a section? hah.
Maybe he needs to go back to grammer school.
It's easier to find a section in onenote, than it is to find a chapter in a
novel!

But that's why his name is "Adumas"! (yeah use phonics, tear that name
apart.)

James, I think you should back down a little bit. Would you like it if you
were called that? If you want any type of credibility in newsgroups, you
should apologize and try to resist jumping on people. The original question
and request is valid for the current OneNote version, and Erik answered
properly.

There's no such thing as too many sections - it depends on what you're using
OneNote for. Using sections to keep like subject notes together saves time
by allowing the user to go to that section and visually peruse the individual
notes to find an entry of interest. Searches, especially when there are a
large number of notes, tend to return too many hits. Organizing sections
logically within folders also makes information retrieval better and faster
than just word or phrase searches. I think ADurnas's problem might not be
too many sections but rather no logical system for naming them.

I agree that section names should definitely be searchable!

I agree sections should be searchable. And the hits should be at the
top of the list.

He's never going to read this newsgroup again anyway!
These are people who just flame at MS for no personal gain.
They are idiots and should be taken off the earth. Why couldnt he be more
civilized and make the suggestion not just blatently bitch. Yeah, I bitched,
but i had good reasons! And I stuck around to get the answer.

Fair enough. I guess that's what I was suggesting - too many sections and
(unstated) no organization of them.

I know all my section names, the point is, you can rapidly hit ctrl-f, type
in your section name and immediately jump to it, regardless of what you are
doing. This is why section names must be included in search.

For example, I have a section called 'now home' which I use for stuff I need
to do at home, that I can drop in and forget about it while I'm at work. So
I'd like to jump to it, then jump back, but of course the section search does
not work.

10 years ago, I wrote an information managment program (unlike onenote, it
used multiple categories, instead of multiple tabs), and I still use it. (at
the time there wasn't even outlook, there was nothing similar to use.) and in
that program, I have a 'now home' entry I can always jump to.

I just want onenote to be able to do the same.

Oh, and if you allow searching tabs.. and when I can't find what I'm already
staring at, I worry about what else onenote is losing. (an option to turn off
or filter searching might be nice too)

While I'm at it, why can't you search within tags?
I want to see all star entries with the word 'home' in them?
??? (this is not a problem, but an enhancement, I understand you can't do
everything all at once)

p.s. unlrelated, print envelopes in word still closes, doesn't save what you
type, and if it doesn't print right, you have to retype it all over again. an
oversight, no print preview in my opinion in 97.. but in 07 still not fixed.

ok, enough babbling.. just fix searching in one note (allow it to be
included or excluded, allow searching by including or not including tags in
the search)
and I'll be happy.
