Whats the best way to get your site on the major search engines? Does FP do
that, or is it another program?

The best way is to submit to them individually, according to their

Best way is to find the Add Url or Add Site links on the various search
engines. You can purchase a service that will submit them for you, but since
about 95% of the searches are done on 5 or so search engines, it's not worth
the money.

Something to keep in mind, even after you add your site, that doesn't
necessarily mean it will end up in the search engine. The various search
engines have different policies on how they rank and identify web sites.
Google, for example, ranks them based on a Page Rank, which is how many
people link to your site. If nobody links to your site, then you're at the
bottom of the barrel (or sometimes not even in the barrel). Most of the
submission pages try to let you know that you are more "suggesting" that
your site be included and don't guarantee that it will.

Ok guys THANKS much for the tips.

I was about to purchase a product offered by my site host that submitted the
site to tons of search engines ( I didn't know that many existed) and it
also automatically entered the meta tags for you, but I'll do as you suggest
and check out the search engines first.

Just a comment on #2..." and lots of relevent Keywords". From what I
understand it is not good "netiquette" to use too many key words in meta
tags (which is what the page properties keywords and description dialog
boxes will apply). I hear that search engines are starting to down play the
importance of these tags in searches because they not always being used
properly. I'm not an expert, but thought it was worth mentioning so that
everyone will continue to benefit from the use of meta tags!

That's fine. I'm also new to web design. However I found using
Frontpage very frustrating. In retrospect I should have used a
different product.

I would love to learn more and improve my web skills. However, there
is a limit to how much time I can spend (waste?) on further
improvements. However, I find reading this forum most instructive.

I am no expert, but I visited your site and it looks great. I would say you
have made good use of FrontPage if that was the only tool you used to
construct it.

I have found that FP was only a starting point. You will find (or at least I
did) a lot if info. by looking at the generated code in Code or HTML view
and by continuing to read this NG. After a little while, I coded everything
in HTML (and CSS and JS). Then my use of FP reduced to using it as a (very
good) tool for uploading my files - it makes sure my local web and server
are synchronised.

view but thats a little intimidating and CSS I have no clue, JS? But you'r
right, reading this group has helped alot, I visit here often even if I
don't need help.
