Search Feature is no longer working

Hello-

The "Search Feature" in my Microsoft Entourage application has ceased to
work. Located in the upper-righthand corner, I used to use this often to
browse through the hundreds of emails I have saved on my hard drive. I have
noticed this since I downloaded the last update for Entourage 2008. When I
type in keywords, it does not come up with any results at all, even when I
know the result is right there in my inbox.

I am not sure what to do about this. I have tried restarting Entourage,
restarting the computer (Mac OS-X) and nothing works. Please help.
Sometimes I really need to find specific emails for work, and there are too
many to search through on my own.

Thanks!

That is the Mac OS X "Spotlight" search. Check the System Preferences for
Spotlight and see if you may have set it not search your Microsoft User Data
folder.

Or you might be able to use the Find or Advanced Find command in Entourage's
Edit menu.

I am having the same issue.

I have verified Spotlight to be indexing the Microsoft User Data folder.

I have also rebuilt the Entourage index spotlight uses -
Preferences/Spotlight/Rebuild

On top of that I did a full rebuild of my current identity.

Also have verified that a new test identity does not search either.

Thoughts anyone?

You could consider force-reindexing the Mac. It is possible (read: it
happens fairly often) that Spotlight had a few issues and stopped
indexing parts of your drive.

In the Treminal, type:
sudo mdutil -E /

You will have to enter your administrator password (it doesn't show up
in the terminal, but it is taken in as you type).

Rebuilding will take hours and hours, but it's usually well worth it.

Dragging the drive into the Spotlight privacy window then removing it will
cause the computer to re-index too.
