Search in multiple identities

Entourage 2008 (12.1.7)

I am searching for mail in multiple identities at the same time using
Advanced Search.

For some reason, it will find mail in some identities but not others.

How do I make it search all Identities in the Office 2008 Identities
folder?

To my knowledge Advanced Search will not search in multiple identities,
but Spotlight will. Do you have Spotlight indexing turned on?

Yes, I can see the mail messages in Spotlight, but when I try to open
the messages, I get a error message that I have to switch identities -
which is what I am trying to avoid.

I know that you can search multiple identities via Advanced Search
because I see search results from other identities show up. The
problem is that they don't show up for all of my identities.

You can't unless you switch Identities.

Unless the Identity is left open long enough for Spotlight to index, you
won't be able to search that Identity.

Let me ask this question then.

Right now if I do Edit>Advanced Search in Entourage, then click on
"All Messages", and then set the search criteria as "Date Received" is
"Greater Than" 365 Days I see emails from 2007 and earlier. I turned
off Preview Pane to see which folder they were in (thinking maybe they
were in this Identity) and their listing for folder was blank. If
these messages aren't in another Identity (since you say you can't
search other Identities from Entourage) and they aren't in any folder
in this Identity, where are these messages stored?

It's possible the message was cached then was deleted in Entourage so there
is no folder because the message no longer exists. For example, I've done
Spotlight searches in the Finder and it found a message but it says, open
this Identity. The Identity had been deleted so the pointer cache file
couldn't do anything other than tell me the message had existed at one point
in time. The reason the cache files were still there after I deleted the
Identity is I deleted in the Finder and not using the right way...in the
Switch Identity window select delete.

Rather than use the Advanced search under Edit, just use the Spotlight box
at the top right of the Entourage window. I find this easier than selecting
the menu item. YMMV

Spotlight search in Entourage only searches the Entourage Identity and
nothing else on your computer.

If you use Spotlight search in the Finder, it can see the cache files from
other Identities.

Would I still be able to open the message if it had been deleted? I
can open these messages.

You can't open something that is not there. The cache file still exists and
could contain all the info from the message, but if the original file has
been deleted there is nothing to open.

Then they can't be cached messages that have been deleted because I
can open them. So why else would they have no folder listed in the
Folder column? I assumed it was because they were in a different
identity.

Opening a message does not automatically show you the folder where they are
located. You can use a script to find where they are located. There are two
scripts you can use. You can see the script to copy or download the script.

Bill, this is very nice. I can view messages from previous identities
without having to switch in Entourage. Thanks.

Both of those scripts did not provide any response when run against
the messages in question. When I run them against messages that have
an entry for the Folder column they produce the anticipated results.
It appears that these messages with no entry in the Folder column are
some sort of caches of old messages that were in my Main Identity at
some point. Apparently, the entire message is cached though because I
can open the message and even open any attachments.
