Welcome to the club. I just finished a lot of e-
mails/postings regarding this problem. With the help of
some others, particularly one person, I got the answer.
The answer is you can't, - at least in XP Home Edition.
You can, however, do the same type searches (e.g.
searching for a name within a letter among many documents
in a particular file or directory) in Windows Explorer.
Try it in Windows Explorer, it works there.
This problem has to do with your indexing service (in
Control Panel - Adm Tools - Computer Management -
Service Applications).
For one thing, - your Indexing Service must be on. See if
it is: go to Start - Change Preferences. If you
see "without Indexing Service," that means it is on. You
can click into it and you will see it is on.
But XP users cannot seem to do these searches in Word,
either from the open dialog box or from the icon on the
toolbar on top in Word.
There is alot more to this but this is it in a nutshell.
