Search indexer stopped working

The index uitility stopped working on Outlook...When I open Outlook, I can
search once or twice, but then I'll get an error that says that the Indix
Utility has stopped working...I am then led to download a Hotfix. On
unzipping and launching the hotfix, after piutting in the password, I get an
'error 40' that goes on to say one of the files in the hotfix package would
not launch.

In trying to figure it out, I have launched the Office repair procedure
found on the install disk...after doing all that, I checked downloads and
found that there was SP2 waiting for me there...I installed that, rebooted,
but no improvement.

My next logical step is to uninstall Outlook and reinstall. Other than that,
I'm out of ideas...
