Search & Replace Hangs Office Word 2007

While converting Text files from other sources, I often need to replace
extraneous carriage returns. I do this using the Search & Replace function
and Seaching for ^p^p or ^p^p^p and replacing by ^p. This use to work fine
on all other versions of office except for 2007. As a matter of fact the
same file (20MB) will go to replacing in less than 30seconds in Office
2003 but will hang for hours before I call it quits and ForceQuit using
TaskManager. I have tried this on almost all the machines at work with
office 2007 with the exact same results.

Anyone experienced this and/or know of a work around?

Microsoft has released a hotfix for this problem.

As a workaround, you can try the same replace but start with the
insertion point at the bottom of the document and replace in the Up
direction

A couple of times I've found I had somehow accidentally turned on some of
the advanced options (especially the one to ignore punctuation), and
Find/Replace worked fine after I had cleared them.
Maybe that's something to look out for too...
