search subfolder

Mike

I am having problems with the Front Page search component.

Setup:

Client:
Front Page 2003
Windows XP SP2

Server: I manage
Windows Server Standard 2003 SP1
IIS 6
FrontPage Server Extensions 2002
Indexing service in on, catalog created for website

When I create a Current Web Web Search Web component and am unable to
set the results to come from just one subfolder.

To search just a folder I typed the name on the subfolder in the "Word
list to search" box. In my case in simply typed "Fall" (without the
quotes.)

My results include results from the entire website, and also results
from other web. The results from other webs are hyper linked to the
actual file location on the server (example file:///d:webserver.....)

I can provide urls to the pages in question if needed.

Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks

You have to create a search form and Index Catalog for the specific folder (subweb/site)

I have a search for and Index Catalog and the seearch is working,-- kind
of. The problem I am having is the search for searches the whole
subsite and not just the folder I type in the Word List to Search field.

So you know if there is a way to just search a folder inside the subsite
and not the entire subsite?

Thanks

You would have to make the folder a subsite with it's own search form and Index Catalog.

FYI: You can a have a subsite under a subsite.

Hi Mike,

If you open a web site or virtual directory's property in Internet
Information Services (IIS) Manager, in Home(Virtual) Directory tab, you
will see a checkbox called 'Index this resource'.

The option controls if a site/virtual directory will be included in the web
site's indexing service catalog. You can disable this option on the
directories which you don't need the search engine get involved.

Please note the changes will not take effect immediately after being made.
You need to open Administrative Tools->Computer Management. Expand Indexing
Service snap-in in it. Then stop indexing service, delete this web site
catalog's catalog.wci directory and then restart indexing service again to
let the catalog to be recreated (The re-indexing process may require
several minutes or more based on your content volume. User active will
pause the content indexing).

Another more flexible way to achieve this is performing the indexing query
programmatically with ASP or ASP.net. For your reference:

How to use an ASP.NET application to query an Indexing Service catalog by
using Visual C# .NET

If you have any further question, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Thanks.
