Search Utility Failure--FP 2002 on Win 2K

Hello. I recently took over maintenance of a company web site which contains
a utility for searching this site for keywords. To keep it current, I did the
"Recalculate Hyperlinks" thing. Now when you try to use the search feature it
displays the following in the results page: FrontPage Run-Time Component
Page--You have submitted a form or followed a link to a page that requires a
web server and the FrontPage Server Extensions to function properly.--This
form or other FrontPage component will work correctly if you publish this web
to a web server that has the FrontPage Server Extensions installed.

Anyone know what I did wrong or how to correct it? Thanx!

Info on what is updated on your server by your search indices w/ FP (using the default WAIS) & how to clear/reset them can be found

If running on a windows server w/ an Index catalog have your host create/update the index catalog

How did you open the site in FrontPage when you recalculated hyperlinks?
As a disc based web using a file system address like n:\websitefolder\
or \\servername\websitefolder , or as a server based web using
something like http://webname/ ?
If opened using the file system address the result would be as you see -
the search and all other forms will point to the page
_derived/norbots.htm which contains that error. Open the website in the
form http://webname and run Tools->recalculate Hyperlinks again - this
should restore everything.

We don't have a "site" exactly...just a collection of directories and HTML
files. I ran the Recalculate Hyperlinks option from the index.htm page (in
page view). Is there another method you would care to recommend? Thanx.

If you wish to use FrontPage forms such as the search component the
website MUST be accessed on a web server - a "collection of directories
and HTML files" will never work.

You will need a PC running Windows 2003, install IIS and the FrontPage
extensions and set up a website.
Then use FrontPage to edit the website.

Recalculate Hyperlinks is not available unless you have a website open -
the question is: is this site opened using a filesytem address
(n:\path\web), or a webserver address (http://servername/website) You
MUST have the second.
What address do use to open index.htm? This is shown in the title bar
of FrontPage.

Many thanx, Ronx. The index.htm file was opened in a filesystem
(P:\index.htm). and the recalculate hyperlinks option done from there. The
search utility breakdown was immediate after the recalculate hyperlinks
option was done. Is there a "reverse" procedure you know of to get this guy
back to where he was before the recalculate hyperlinks episode? Thanks again
for the help. You're great.

The reverse procedure is to open the website against a server - using
http://servername or similar.
If there is no webserver, the search will NEVER work. The http:// bit
is absolutely vital. The webserver must also have FrontPage extensions
installed and configured for the website.

When opened, run recalculate hyperlinks again to correct all the code.
