search will not find anything when onlysearching the folder I'm currently in

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: Exchange

Using the search box in the upper-right hand corner of Entourage (not the filter box) Entourage will never find any messages in the folder I'm currently browsing.

When I start typing my search, a list of buttons appears, including "(the folder I'm currently browsing," "all messages," "everything," etc. Searching the folder I'm in finds nothing, but if I search "all messages," it will find that message I'm looking for and a whole bunch more.

How do I fix this broken search behavior? Thank you!

The Search field is limited to just the current folder you're browsing.
Are you sure the messages you're finding when selecting "all messages"
are actually in your current folder?

The global search field will search everywhere. For example, if I use the global search box and click the "all messages" filter, it will show me all messages found throughout all of my folders. The issue is that it will find nothing whatsoever if I click on the "[the folder I'm currently browsing]" filter (the leftmost filter in the list).

Hmmmm, this is strange. Create a new Identity. Don't bother with creating
any accounts. Just drag in a few messages to the folders "On My Computer"
folder for testing. Give it a few minutes for Spotlight to index, then test.
Does it work? If yes, then you might want to use the new Identity. For
Exchange accounts only it's best to just let Entourage sync back up rather
than trying the rebuild.

BTW, do you qualify for the EWS version of Entourage? It's a free upgrade
for Entourage 2008 users that meet the Exchange server requirements.

By default it only displays items from your current folder. Maybe I
should rephrase my question: Are you sure your current folder contains
items that should appear in the search?

I should note that I have had so many problems with Entourage, including this one, that I have switched over to using Snow Leopard's native Exchange functionality, and am ever so much happier now. I recommend others who have that capability do the same!
